February 10 Brooklyn Friends School The concerts are going to be very family friendly in that we have a Meet the Artists time at 7pm for 20 minutes where all the mysteries can be explained for anyone ages 3 and up. It's a great informal way to get a framework for listening. We hope that all will take advantage of this opportunity to get up close and personal with the musicians. The concert will be about an hour, from 7:30-8:30. And if all this isn't enough incentive, you should know that the net
proceeds will go to the Horizons at BFS program, to help fund music
classes for public school students. There is more information here, including many of my BFS students interviewing some of us about the concert, and video clips of Andrew Lamb. ~~~~~~~~ CONNIE CROTHERS QUARTET Connie Crothers, piano Friday, February 17th, 9:00 $10 Cover/$10 Minimum ($7.00 cover with student ID) Somethin' Jazz Club 212 E. 52nd St. #3Fl. Lennie Tristano had his students listen to Lester Young (1936-1941), Billie Holiday (primarily in The Swing Era), Roy Eldridge, Charlie Christian, Charlie Parker, Fats Navarro, and Bud Powell (1944-1953). Lennie felt that if you listen to these artists, then you will know jazz. Connie Crothers will explain why these artists provide the essence of jazz and how Tristano guided the listener to their music. 8 Monday Nights, 6:30-8:30 1/23, Billie Holiday Course, $200/per class, $30 Jazz at Lincoln Center, Inc.
